Note: This question is a follow-up to this article – What does it mean to be born again?

So now that we explained what it means to be born again we can talk about Jesus. As we have seen so far spiritual birth is needed because all of us are at enmity with God and each one of us have to reconcile with Him, before it is eternally too late. If we do not accept His sacrifice for our sins, we will pay the price for our sin ourselves for eternity in hell. Therefore spiritual birth is needed only for humans because all of us have sinned.

So did Jesus need to be born again? Of course not! The answer lies in the very fact who Jesus is:

First of all, Jesus Christ is God himself. He is the eternal one. He always was and is and will be. He needs no reconciliation with God, He is God!

John 1:1, 14

“1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

Col 2:8-9

“Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9 For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”

Secondly, Jesus has never sinned and was never dead spiritually in order to be born again!

When He came to this earth He has took upon a human body. He was born from a virgin and he did not receive a sinful nature. The Bible teaches that the sin is transferred through man’s seed. Jesus did not have an earthly Father. He was sinless before He came to earth and His human body was conceived by Holy Spirit in a virgin. He never had a sinful nature, but He had the same human body as you and me. He felt all the same temptations, hunger, thirst, cold, pain, rejection, humiliation, yet He never sinned. So that He would fulfill the Father’s will and save the world from sin. Only a sinless being, Jesus Christ could pay the price of mankind’s sin, to satisfy a just God’s righteous anger. Therefore

Jesus paid the price for our sins:

2 Corinthians 5:21

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

To summarise, Jesus Christ is God. Even when He lived as man on Earth He was sinless. Therefore, He did not need to be born again (to have His sins forgiven). He is not spiritually dead, but He is the giver of life!

Jesus said in John 6:47-48

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
I am that bread of life.

Now read how you can be born again and thus receive salvation through Jesus Christ.
